EU vs Disinformation’ website is part of a campaign to better forecast, address and respond to pro-Kremlin disinformation.

The ‘EU versus Disinformation’ campaign is run by the European External Action Service East Stratcom Task Force. The team was set up after the EU Heads of State and Government stressed the need to challenge Russia’s ongoing disinformation campaigns in March 2015. Read more about the team here.

The website and its partners produce the weekly Disinformation Review through which they have identified and compiled on their database over 3,800 disinformation cases since September 2015 (figure from spring 2018). This site is the only publicly accessible international database of disinformation cases. It is supported and promoted by the EUvsDisinfo Facebook page and Twitter account.

Although the website lists the outlets where such disinformation has appeared, it does not necessarily imply that the outlet concerned is linked to the Kremlin or pro-Kremlin, or that it has intentionally sought to disinform. The Review analyses messages, not the messenger. If the message is a) false, which is determined by the facts and b) originating and in line with identified pro-Kremlin disinformation messaging, it is included in the product. Read more about the terminology of the Disinformation Review here.

The database of debunks is supplemented with a large number of website’s own analytical articles about various aspects of disinformation.

EU vs Disinformation‘ also collates and recommends many reports, studies and articles by other authors on the subject, which can all be accessed here.

Apart from this publicly available output, the project’s team briefs and trains EU institutions, Member State governments, journalists and researchers on this topic, and participates regularly in conferences to share its experience.
